What a Blackman’s Life is worth in 2010

years ago i wrote this out of mourning for Oscar Grant and disdain of the justice system

today I repost out of mourning for Travon Martin and disdain of the justice system

What is it worth?

A fraction of yours

The law reminded us that

JUSTICE IS NOT SERVED.

Power remains with the few

The many remain oppressed.

When injustice is weighed and dealt out

the people have the right to tip the balance.

When

FAIR

is taken from those that deserve it

They have the

RIGHT

to take it back.

What is it worth?

A fraction of yours.

A bit more than the dirt on the floor

But

Far less than that of a dog

That is what they told my:

Nephew

Cousin

Brother

Son

Uncle

Co-worker

Classmate

Husband

Father

ME

what my life was worth.
